My WoW carreer begins and ends in the blink of an eye
I've been playing WoW for about four days, and my account has already been hacked. I did full system checks with Spybott and Avast, and changed my password to something horrific that I have no hope of remembering (I had to write it down) filled with numbers, letters, and shift key symbols. Even after all that, my password got changed while I was out with some friends at dinner tonight. My billing is now canceled. I may be able to get in for my last few weeks on December 1st. However, any time investment in WoW is starting to seem foolish unless I spring for a dongle. When I calm down more, I'll decide whether to dongle up.

Wow I can't believe the horrendous luck! Terrible hackers, I hate them. I think it would be a shame to have these assholes steer you away from a game you just got back into, even before you had the chance to enjoy the changes...but I also understand your frustration. If you do decide to keep playing, an authenticator is definitely a good investment. Do you have an iphone or android? I think the mobile app is free.
ReplyDeleteThat really sucks. It's incredible to me how much trouble Blizzard has keeping their systems secured, I guess that's a draw back of being such a big target.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm against paying for an authenticator. I think they should be free if that's what Blizzard wants to depend on for account security. Isn't that part of what your monthly subscription is for? As someone who doesn't have an iPhone or Android, there are no free options for securing my account.
That sucks. This constant fear of having an account hacked is one reason why I don't want to play WoW anymore.
ReplyDeleteGah! That's ridiculous. I can't believe that it's that easy to do!
ReplyDeleteThat is horrendous. I don't even have words to describe my anger. I hope it gets resolved for you quickly.
ReplyDeleteThat really sucks.
ReplyDeleteAny WoW add-ons or other things WoW-related installed that could be potential culprits? If you really had a good password set it sounds like to could e some kind of trojan which the software checks did not find - in which case it may still be around.
Thanks for the support guys.
ReplyDeleteI believe now that the culprit was my gmail account, they were using that to reset my password. It did not occur to me to change that password when I changed my WoW one. I have since logged on from a completely different computer (and a mac at that) and changed all of my passwords to stuff that should be pretty secure. I have no idea at this point how much damage was done to my account.
